Well hi to all, and thanks for showing an interest by coming here!

As I'm sure you have worked out my name is Ian Reed, and I am an overenthusiastic science teacher, who is probably also a frustrated wanna-be actor at heart.  Having majored in Biology and Geography at University I have taught in a wide variety of subjects and year levels in the eleven years since graduating.  Originating from Australia, I have taught in schools in Australia, China, Malaysia and now Dubai..  I am also working on my Masters of Education in Science and Environmental Education by distance education, and hope to be finished at the end of 2004.

My long suffering wife is very supportive (read "tolerant") of the sometimes odd science things that I do (often in the kitchen at home) and the hours that I spend doing extra-curricular stuff at school.  I am grateful for this support and hope that she feels I am equally supportive of her interests.  My 4 year old daughter has often  been a test subject for my science ideas and I fear that she will doing her PhD at age 12.  

My passion is to infuse the joy and excitement that science and discovery can be into the lives of my students.  I will have succeeded if my students are keen to be in my class, get there early and want to leave late, don't watch the clock and always want to know more.  Sometimes it even happens.  I love the quote above because it really sums up how I feel about teaching.  I once heard heads of faculties talking over coffee.  The English Head asked the Science Head, "Are all science teachers crazy?"  The reply was, "Only the good ones."

I am a Taurus who enjoys long walks on the beach, candle lit dinners and getting caught in the rain.  My ideal partner will love to travel and have a passion for music and strawberries.  Luckily I found one.
